Following an epic several months hanging out in New Zealand it was time to Go! There was a definite chill in the air. The bilges were total of provisions and we were lastly all set.

Leaving port and going offshore is a conclusion we will not choose flippantly. 1 that includes pouring more than climate forecasts in the weeks previous our departure. Examining wave heights, swell interval, wind and gust maps. Setting up for alternate routes and ports. There is a ton that goes into it. A ton of observe. Perhaps we were a bit out of observe acquiring summered in New Zealand?

The passage from New Zealand to Fiji is a single that includes a level of no return. A level exactly where the only thing you can do is switch extra downwind. And that is what we did. Our initial program had us stopping more than in a position known as Minerva Reef. Following three days of bashing into waves with no end in sight and sailing angles that were getting tighter and tighter we pulled the induce to skip beautiful Minerva reef. So with any luck , this movie presents you an strategy of how moist and wild it can get out here. Of course, it’s not super cozy but it can even now be pleasurable in it’s possess wierd, quirky way. Not to mention, it will make that initially beer in that tranquil anchorage even sweeter!

Woot! we’re again in the tropics!!!

  15. What type of self steering are you using? I want to sail the pacific (after I learn to sail) and have decided on a catamaran. However, I've read that the on board auto steering doesn't do well in rough weather. A "hydrovane" is recommended. On a cat though I am unsure where it would go. Monohulls have it on the back center. Perhaps the self steering you are using eliminates the need for a hydrovane.

Do you use only motor during rough weather or is it a combination, or all sail? Well safe travels and happy sailing. Thanks for the content and a look at a whole new world for me.
