Rotted core and fiberglass fix with new honeycomb core
There was some rotten core in a part of deck and a person of the engine room handles. The boat is made of a wood core with fiberglass on every single aspect of the core. This will make a quite robust framework, but any break in the fiberglass pores and skin can enable drinking water in and sooner or later rot some of the core substance. When this takes place, the deck feels comfortable and spongy when walked on.
Maintenance is a lot like finding a filling at the dentist. You reduce away a minimal little bit, and a minimal little bit extra till you are previous all the rot so your fix bonds to sound substance on all sides. I changed the old core with a plastic honeycomb substance which can under no circumstances rot, and then lined my fix with fiberglass.
Holes in the engine room hatch cover had been lined with painters tape so a mix of resin and glass fibers could be distribute into the hole from the again. The tape results in being a mildew to form the other aspect of the fix to match the prime surfaces of the hatch.
