  4. The mast leak still bothers me. A wax ring will only last as long as the wax doesn;t melt from thermal heating of the deck and mast. Soon it will be raining molten wax down below. I've seen stepping done with hard rubber wedges, used to hold the mast firm, straight and tuned against the deck structure. Then a two part rubber self-leveling sealer is poured around the entire base. No leaks there for decades. It made a firm connection between the deck partners and the mast structure. Without that, all rigging stress goes to the rigging and chain plates, while the mast itself is free to move, vibrate or bend. As the wind stress increases a mast engineered to flex from the deck up now bends from the keel up. Serious? Probably not. But the life of the mast and rigging might be shortened by stress cracks over the years. I wish I had more detailed information but a qualified rigging company will know how to do it right.

Renn, Are you living off the sale of your house or how do you make money to travel just patrons? I'm not trying to be nosy just planning I've been re-rigging for 3 years and hope to sell my property soon but wondering what to do for cash after that. 😉

  26. When do you actually start sailing? You seem to be spending a lot of time at the same marina. Doesn't that get expensive?

  30. You might have a list to Starboard if you have liquid tanks on one side of the boat and all your canned goods or something on that side as well. Remember liquids weigh hundreds of pounds once you have enough of it.

  36. Nice vid. I watched another channel use a drone to check their rigging. It was a brilliant idea. And while they had to go up to do the repairs, it saved a few trips up and down. Nice idea particularly if out at sea. But only in calm waters – as you don't want to risk having the mast hit the drone.
Birthday cheers! To the bday boy and early bday wishes to the bday girl!

  37. Venus is the most awful-looking yacht I have ever seen. It does look fast until a wave from the side does it in. Crew of 22? That is crazy. Who wants all those people around who are not friends/family? You will have more privacy in a Trump Hotel. Did you ever have a waiter who hangs around too much? That X 22. I like your boat better.

  41. Birthdays are there to celebrate being alive, both yourself and the people you love. You pursued a dream and you made it come true. You're in a beautiful place. You're going to sail to another beautiful place, and God willing, you will keep on doing that for a long time. You have a lot to celebrate.
