Oyster 53 Sailing Yacht Massive Waves High Winds Strait of Bonifacio

Whilst crossing the Strait of Bonifacio in late September 2015 on our Oyster 53 sailing yacht, we encountered Force 9.5 sustained (40-50 knot) winds and 20-25 foot (7-8 meter) seas. We envisioned 38 knots whilst threading the needle in between two storm units, but instead… we obtained a minimal more. Make sure you delight in the experience!

The Strait of Bonifacio is the passage concerning Corsica and Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea.

  4. Is there a perspex or (toughened) glass barrier to the cabin? If not I am surprised because a wave into the cockpit would wipe out most of the stuff in the cabin! Great Stuff!

  8. I loved the music and presentation, you first mate was comfortable in her chair and we can only realize the pitching going on when the camera was facing through the windscreen forward, it seemed to go 45 degrees left followed immediately by 45 degree right: in one swing it covered 90 degrees of tilt. best storm video I've seen yet where no one is kicking and screaming while tied to the boat.

  9. May I ask what sort of speeds were you doing and what sails did you have up? For some reason the music works with the hectic waves, boat movement its kind of uplifting :D. Nice work.
