32. Cost-free SAILBOAT – Also Good To Be Accurate? – Do it yourself Sailing

They say “There is certainly very little far more expensive than a free of charge boat,” but craigslist has some unicorns each now and then. This 1978 Endeavor 32 we picked up has a 2004 Westerbeke 20B Two motor in it with 270 hrs, newer rigging, sails, and in-mast furling, new bronze thru-hulls, seacocks, and a modern full base job that repaired blisters and used a barrier coat, and new anti-fouling.

How can you get your personal free boat? Nicely, there’s no key to it. Be diligent about checking craigslist each and every day.

Studying the Lines is a channel about us, an ordinary couple in our 20’s, with significant goals to be sailing the planet by the time we’re in our 30’s. We’re not concerned to jump into anything at all, place in the perform, and find out as we go. For this explanation our channel is really Do-it-yourself centered, with the objective to clearly show anybody observing that a whole lot is achievable if you might be not frightened to make some problems along the way.

  1. Pulling up a chair and making some popcorn for this one. Not this video the whole story. The "old" boat and the "new" boat and the budget and work. You just added 100 new story lines to this vlog. Can't wait. Best of luck and Merry Christmas to you both.

  2. Don't touch it just sell. You won't make a dime off the hand work you put into it. It's just that, it is what it is as it sits.

  6. An Old boat, I think, is a New Experience. You can take my hand, if case, to Sailing… Congratulations anyway!…

  7. My dad had one of these. We did several deep water cruises with it (boston-bermuda, etc.) and hit some rough weather and big seas. Handled it well. Great boat.

  10. 8-26-19 Wow! You done great! Even if you have to put a new engine in it, your not hurt! And then it just cost a couple hundred to fix! Just use it, enjoy it and fix as you go! Good move getting that insurance that towed you! I have never been on a sail boat, don't know a thing about sailing. But I think you got about the right size, bigger is not always better. Good luck! Be safe!

  13. When you start the engine check to make sure water is coming out the back!

Change the oil!!!! Diesel engines must have clean oil! Dirty oil will trash a diesel quick!

Close the thru hull when you leave the boat for several days!
Most boats sink from broken thru hulls while people are gone away!

The bilge pump is a very important piece of equipment.
Don’t leave the dock unless it’s working!
    Carry a spare!
Keep trash out of the bilge especially paper it clogs bilge pumps!

Alcohol in gasoline is a bad idea for small engines!

  15. Pretty darn rad guys. Grew up sailing US Yachts and Catalinas for 22 years. Enjoy the Endevor, few people in our cove had them and were a pleasure to cruise in.
