Changing an Ex-Constitution Boat into a Bluewater Cruiser ~ Vlog #20

After a refreshing couple of weeks with Jackson’s mothers and fathers in the Balearic Islands, and a few times land-centered at Xanthe’s parents’ property in Cabo de Palos (Spain), we had been back into boat existence comprehensive throttle.

Two months to go right up until we cross the Atlantic with the ARC Rally indicates preparations are ramped up. We expend a 7 days in Almerimar in the South of Spain using advantage of the fantastic chandleries and yacht companies to transform Getting Avalon into the Bluewater cruiser she’s constantly dreamed of getting.

We did the next:
~ Garnered all the essential basic safety equipment
~ Replaced the standing rigging
~ Set up a 2nd set of navigation lights
~ Set up the sat phone process
~ Provisioned all the dry products for the Atlantic crossing
~ Mounted a saltwater pump

…Almerimar seemed good from afar!

Oh indeed, and apologies for the fart noises in some of the voiceovers. I was pressed for time and experienced to record them in a marina with really squeaky ropes – I swear!

Many thanks for observing men. If you preferred it, please give us a thumbs up and go away a pretty comment. We article each Sunday! So if you’d like to see us each 7 days, why not subscribe.

  8. Also, for the younger people watching, it is de rigueur for parents to wear black socks with shorts when in the presence of your children.

  9. I forgot to mention last vlog how impressed I am you could set up the kite on the boat. As a beginning kiteboarder I can't imagine getting my lines rigged (i.e. untangled) without an acre of beach to work on. Job well done!

  10. Hey Guys! We actually met on Formentera. I didn't realize it until now when I was editing the video from there and then recognized your boat name. We shared the taxi boat from the beach out 🙂 I was too busy filming tho so we didn't share a word and I didn't know who you guys were at the time.
Hope you won't mind I'm using the material for my next upcoming video 🙂

  12. Hi there Zanthe, I’m just going back a few episodes because I remember you saying the ARC said to steer clear of the iridium go, could you expand on why?

  14. For some reason I entertained the idea Jackson's father was called ….Jack. Now I know (that he isn't).

  16. Ha ha ha, I must admit I had a chuckle when Jackson copped it on the noggin with the horn. Typical woman’s’ reaction – belt him over the head with a solid object! 😉

  17. Got rid of all my sailing channels but 5, three of the others are all on the hard. Finding Avalon and MF I could watch all day, and I have. Love the channel, y'all will be at 10k subs in no time.
    Looking forward to the crossing.
    Have fun and be safe.

  18. I'd suggest not wrapping items in newspaper. If it gets wet, it will fall off, get into the bilge and plug the bilge pump.

  26. I've heard the bandwidth is so low on the Iridium that simple text and weather plots is about all it can do. Have you seen anything better than that with your new unit?

  29. I totally agree with your advise of cruising with a boat before kitting it out for ocean passages. So much to learn, experience before spending money for equipment. GOOD GOING!

  30. dont wrap goods in paper you get water down below paper turns to mush and will block bilge pumps
