Rough Seas, Strong Winds! Hang onto your knickers! (Sailing Nandji) Ep 102

Huge Rough Seas, Strong 30 knot winds on the nose, all makes a difficult up wind Offshore 400nm passage!

This video is a in depth view of what life at sea is really like and the problems faced at all hours of the night.

This week on Sailing Nandji, the time has come to depart the beautiful island of Wayag. The upwind passage of 400nm to the city of Ambon was no easy task. The strong trade winds however had been howling through the area for over a week and showed no sign of easing. We put on our PFDs and big boy pants and tackled the rough seas. With strong winds of 30 knots on the nose, it made for some challenging sailing at first. Then days into the passage, the wind disappears and we are left with our broken motor drifting at sea for days…

NANDJI”S NEW MOTOR

If you wish to contribute towards our campaign of getting Nandji a new engine in 2 months time, then please donate to the link below! Shhh my real name is Jarrad! Thanks for the help in making this project of ours a reality!

We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have been in Indonesia for a couple of months cruising and our now high tailing to Malaysia for boat work. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some amazing people and experienced cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of no where, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades! Indian Ocean next!

  3. My youngest two boys are a year younger than you Yoshi. Pretty amazing to see how many beautiful and challenging life experiences you both have had these past 2 years as well as the year after this one. I am impressed with both of you, your accomplishments with Sailing Nandji, your adventurous spirit, and how you both carry yourselves at such a "young age". Well done Legends.

  4. Even in life off the sea, the little victories should never be taken for granted. They're life savers. Good insight, Yosh my friend, keep the wisdom coming, you have lots of it. Peace

  6. Ah, how many times I put on freshly air dried shorts, only to find they were salt encrusted, Oh the chaffing, and the sores. Wound up raising freshly washed clothes on the halyard when in 'splashy' seas. Folks who don't lean from side to side when on land just don't understand life at sea…

  19. Have not checked in on you guys for a while. Really making seem way to difficult. Always best to go to weather all night when the wind blows. Coming on deck every 15 minutes is not right. I know you can do wiser sailing. Peter

  34. Reefing the main and powering up with the stay tells me that you know how to sail your boat. We've turned around a time or two, so we get your decision to make the journey another day. We've been out in a few gails and have turned tale to find that the following winds made for really calm (comparatively speaking) seas and winds. Better to save those winds for another day.

By the way, we spent a good while sailing back to our port when our diesel broken down. Seven days in really becalmed conditions and without power. We quickly learned many lessons about what we needed. You too, right?
