Engine fails in the vicinity of reef split Episode sixty three (Sailing Catalpa)

This episode we check into Kupang. See the metropolis and head off in research of some apparent water, sunshine and waves. We capture our initially fish along the way and indeed you would not think our engine stops proper in the vicinity of a reef coming into Nemberala theres by no means a uninteresting minute on Catalpa we hope you delight in.

Significant appreciate the Catalpa Crew

  5. I have a first hand understanding of the frustrations that you endure on board catalpa. Our maiden voyage up the coast of Northland NZ was full of adventure. Hydraulic steering failure about 4 miles off the coast, temporarily fixed by pouring a bottle of cooking oil into the system to give us enough steerage to make port and repairs. Leaving a day later and continuing up the coast with a beaut following breeze. Round the cape into the bay, start the engine to chase her into a head wind, to get a bit of comfort for uncomfortable kids, only to find that the shaft disc brake had made its way on and was glowing RED HOT! Holy crap! Shut it down and sail in amongst the crowds of holiday boats to find safe anchor. Find that the main raw water inlet hose had nearly melted through from the heat of the disc! To fix the hose I shut the sea cock while taping over the bulge…..then forgot to open the seacock……..no cooling water, over heat engine and blow seal on circulating water pump! We then had to sail into an anchorage and drop anchor with no engine.
But we made it safely and now have a few jobs to sort before we head out for some R & R in our beloved bay.
    Cheers Guys.

  9. I enjoy watching all of your videos but I can't support you via Patreon due to the recent rule changes and fees. I will continue to wait for your videos on YouTube, and maybe one day another company will do things the way Patreon used to, and I can support you that way. Keep up the great journey and having fun.

  25. The rubbish is so sad…here in America where I live there is an advertisement ever five minutes on the television to dispose of your rubbish properly. They always say it gets in the ocean, etc…well they just have a blank stare and admonishment when I tell people here its not Americans that need to hear the message. It is Asians. That rubbish patch in the Pacific for the most part isn't American rubbish. Americans need to spend money on ads talking about rubbish in Indonesia, not in America if they want to save the planet.

  26. Firstly wish you all a fantastic 2018 🙂 Glad you made Indonesia safely, great country with 17K islands, Oh dear me so many places to explore ! Rubbish, now there is an issue. Now that is an issue and beautifully demonstrated by your response. I run a marine conservation NGO and what you said identified every tourist & sailor's view on visiting Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines, it's tragic. Facts Indonesia is the 2nd ranking country for pollution, China 1st. Indonesia population 250 million, 21% of the pollution is disposable nappies in Bali. Bali survives because of tourism and diving with Nusa Penida, sun fish (mola mola), manta rays etc . They usually have 50 volunteers for beach clean ups, situation is so bad 700 people came, You are the best people to relay this in the way that you do, sincere, shocked and appreciated for it's forthrightness. People need to know. I was in Semporna, Sabah with the WWF and watched locals throwing refuse bags of rubbish into the sea. There is a rubbish triangle due south of there. We need to educate the locals, invite participation by the local authorities and express our concerns maturely to all that we can, If you would like some further info, stats or help please PM me and I'll be happy to help. Our oceans need support and at local level. Great job Catalpa and hope you don't mind the rant. Maybe next time over a Bintang !

  28. Y'all need to get your self one of them there fishing belts that you put your pull into when you're reeling your pole in. It sure save your pelvis area from getting that pole stuck into it so hard.and the pole don't slip, it's a difference is night and day when your reeling in that big fish when you're wearing that belt… You could probably rig one up yourself it's nothing but a belt with a piece of rubber holder just took the end of your pole into when you're reeling in a fish… Great video thanks for sharing you all be blessed…. BBE 🤗😀👍👍😀

  34. @ 05:00 "you can't judge them"?!? "It's 'their' country"?!? Come on! You really should broaden your views about the environment and culture! You SHOULD judge them! Everyone should!!! Stop! Complain! Protest! You're giving them a free pass! It's of no use saying; 'it's their country, it's how they live'' It is ecocidal and it's OUR world! Plastics transform into micro-plastics, get into the foodchain, and WE you and I, are eating it! So it effects us all!
